Platform Approach to Mobility

The proliferation of more powerful and more innovative smartphones has been the main catalyst for the blossoming mobility market. However, it is this same device proliferation that makes it challenging for any company to easily harness the power of mobility for enterprise- or consuming-facing apps.

Companies must not only develop apps across multiple device OS’s—Android, BlackBerry, iPhone, Symbian, and Windows Mobile—but they must also centrally deploy, manage, and secure these apps across all these devices--particularly for workers. In addition, the integration of various backend systems and data sources, along with the middleware to manage all the wireless transactions and communications, are non-trivial tasks for an enterprise IT organization to cobble together.

This is where a platform approach to mobility makes sense. Some may also call these solutions as mobile middleware, mobile development tools, or some other name, but in general we are referring to a class of software built specifically for enterprises to build, deploy, and manage mobile apps for any data system, to any user, on any device, across any wireless network.
